Guest Work Agency Advises Artist Ash Keating on his Large Scale Artwork Commission by Mirvac

Art law and advisory firm Guest Work Agency (GWA) has advised client and renowned Melbourne-based artist Ash Keating on his recent public artwork commissioned by the Australian property group, Mirvac.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Keating recently completed an expansive painting on the entire construction site hoarding surrounding the new Park Street by Mirvac development in Brunswick. Managed by David Hagger and assisted by Chris Henderson, this large scale project draws upon the adjacent landscape.

On the east side of the site, golden hues mimic the bursts of first colour at sunrise and late fading sunset skies. To the north, violets, blues and magentas are a nod to endemic flowers of the area, while the deeper golds, earthy reds and muted greys to the west speak to the history of the brickworks and factories from years past.

Keating spoke about the physical challenges of working on the project: “The process of preparing for and painting works this large is taxing on the body. We covered nearly 50km manoeuvring materials across the perimeter of the site over the 2 days.”

LEGAL ADVICE FOR ASH KEATINGS PROJECT

GWA provided legal advice to Ash on the contractual arrangement with Mirvac. Director Alana Kushnir commented: “We wanted to ensure that Ash’s unique way of making – on such an extraordinarily large scale, and live, on a public site – was respected throughout the commission process. This entailed negotiating a highly bespoke contract which was responsive to the particular work.”
