Guest Work Agency Announced as a 2022 Australian Law Awards Finalist in Two Categories

Guest Work Agency (GWA) Director & Founder, Alana Kushnir, has been shortlisted for Innovator of the Year and Sole Practitioner of the Year in the Lawyers Weekly Australian Law Awards.

The Lawyers Weekly Australian Law Awards program

The Awards program recognises leading legal professionals and firms across Australia and has been running for 22 years. As described on the Awards website, “the judging criteria for award categories is both quantitative and qualitative, acknowledging growth, business development, diversity, leadership, innovation, business excellence and contribution to Australia’s legal sector”.

The winners for this year’s Awards will be selected by a judging panel and announced at a ceremony in Sydney on 12 August 2022.

Innovator of the Year

The Innovator of the Year category recognises individuals that have demonstrated innovation to bolster the business of law.

GWA’s submission highlighted Director & Founder Alana Kushnir’s unique strategy of  building a legal practice based on the needs of a specific industry, rather than a specific area of law, as is traditionally the case. The submission also highlighted GWA’s innovative work culture that encourages creativity, curiosity and engagement in the arts.

Sole Practitioner of the Year

The Sole Practitioner of the Year category recognises outstanding performance by an individual who has chosen to roll out their own practice with up to three other personnel.

The firm’s submission focused on high profile client projects completed by Alana in FY 2021 - 2022, including public artwork commissions (eg Lindy Lee’s sculpture for the Queen’s Wharf development in Brisbane), brand collaborations (eg Reko Rennie’s collaboration with Heineken® 0.0 for the F1®) and advising new NFT (non-fungible token) platforms (eg Blockchain.art).

GWA’s submission also detailed Alana’s continued thought leadership initiatives including educating art industry participants on the importance of the law as a commercial - rather than just defensive - tool, as well as educating peers in the legal industry on navigating the complexities of Web 3.0 and blockchain technology.

Guest Work Agency is a boutique art law and advisory firm based in Melbourne, but international in reach. It is the first dedicated art law practice in Australia, working with artists, collectors, galleries, arts organisations, art fairs and art tech start-ups.
