Art law and advisory firm Guest Work Agency (GWA) has advised renowned First Nations artist Reko Rennie on the commissioning of a series of art works by Heineken® 0.0 for the Formula 1® Heineken® Australian Grand Prix 2022.

CUSTOM RACING HELMET SIGNED BY DANIEL RICCIARDO

A bespoke racing style helmet designed by Reko Rennie was unveiled by eight-time F1® Grand Prix Winner and McLaren F1® racing driver, Daniel Ricciardo. As described in Heineken’s official press release, the helmet features custom made artwork inspired by Reko’s hometown of Melbourne.

The autographed helmet is being auctioned off, with proceeds being donated to Australian Red Cross' QLD & NSW Floods appeal. Fans can participate in the auction on the Air Auctioneer website.

ABORIGINAL CULTURE AND IDENTITY INSPIRE F1 ARTWORK

Reko commented on the custom artwork design for the helmet: "The use of blue and green honours Birrarung (the Yarra River), which holds enormous cultural significance to the original inhabitants and owners of Naarm (Melbourne). I’ve also included some of the eye-catching colours and camouflage patterns that I’ve used regularly in my work, and which have appeared on large-scale public artworks around Melbourne (and elsewhere). Rather than the traditional idea of camouflage – blending in and hiding – my urban camouflage design is a celebration of my Aboriginal culture and identity. What I’m saying is “we are here - we are proud, and we are visible”.”

His custom artwork featured throughout the entire F1 event, including the racetrack, podium and VIP areas, as well as around the Melbourne CBD.
