AROUND TOWN AND ABROAD - MELBOURNE EDITION

Installation view, Mood Mirror by Meredith Turnbull 2020 at Daine Singer.

Melbournians, it’s time to dust off your out there outfit choices and see some art that you can actually touch (we didn’t tell you that!). Art galleries all over town are reopening after the longest lockdown in the world, and we have the perfect itinerary for you.

Reckoning by Reko Rennie at STATION, South Yarra

Your first stop should be Reko Rennie’s solo exhibition at STATION . Through graffiti-inspired paintings and neon works, the artist expands on his camouflage signature works to comment on public monuments, colonial history and Indigenous sovereignty. Closing this Saturday.

Mood Mirror by Meredith Turnbull at Daine Singer, Fitzroy

Make sure to also head to Fitzroy this week for the last days of Meredith Turnbull’s show in which she interrogates the human desire to create through a series of sculptural and image based works. Closing this Saturday.

Grace Wood, There are no new waves, only ocean at LON Gallery, Collingwood

While in Fitzroy, stop by LON Gallery to see Grace Wood’s post-internet collage-based works. The title of the show reflects on the rate of the virus transmission within the current pandemic, our hyperconnected lives and notions of truth.

John Nixon Groups + Pairs 2016 – 2020 at Anna Schwartz Gallery, CBD

Freshly renovated, Anna Schwartz Gallery is extending John Nixon’s final exhibition until the 19th of December to give enough time for audiences to visit. One of Australia's most influential conceptual artists, Nixon passed away earlier this year, just a few months after installing the show.

Judy Watson, memory scars, dreams and gardens at Tolarno Galleries, CBD

For your last stop, Tolarno presents its first Judy Watson exhibition since 2016 from this Friday. Created over the past months, the works reflect on the feelings of unease from the current state of affairs in Australia and the aftermath of the bushfires, the pandemic and the destruction of cultural sites.

We are also looking forward to visiting public galleries again! While waiting for their reopening, get up-to-date with Guest Work Agency & Guest Club Founder Alana Kushnir’s Broadsheet article on the upcoming NGV Triennial and keep an eye on our Instagram stories for hot tips on what’s on around town and abroad.
